The validity of electronic visas (E-visas) for foreigners has been increased to three months from no more than 30 days, with the aim of attracting more foreign tourists to come to Vietnam.
Good news for Vietnam's tourism industry
On March 27, at the the Government’s March session on law-making, cabinet members unanimously agreed to some proposals to allow:
- Increase the validity of e-visas issued to foreigners to three months from one month, with single and multiple entries applicable.
- Grant e-visas to citizens of all countries and territories (with the list decided by the Government).
- Increase the duration of temporary residence at the border gate for people entering the country under the visa exemption categories from 15 days to 45 days.
This is good news for Vietnam's tourism industry, especially in the context that international tourists are considering Vietnam as a potential destination after the COVID-19 pandemic. The law-making session also drafted amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese citizens and the Law on foreigners' entry into, exit from, transit through and residence in Viet Nam. These updates will be beneficial to the recovery and development of the tourism industry as well as other socio-economic sectors.
Vietnam ranked in world’s top 5 summer destinations for 2023
Recently, the US travel website Travel Off Path cited the top 5 international destinations to visit this summer, including Vietnam, along with Japan, New Zealand, Italy, and France. Viet Nam is one of the countries that saw a significant hike in terms of searches and bookings for the summer. The capital city of Ha Noi reached a search and book rate of up to 298 percent, while Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City were at 439 percent and 219 percent, respectively. This proves that Vietnam promises to be a favorite destination of international tourists for the summer of 2023.
